Ask Kadmo

Ask Kadmo is one box for asking questions about your account and handing work to agents. A question is answered from your account: its playbooks, tasks, runs, agents, workflows and skill packs, with the sources shown as chips you can open. A request for work is answered with a plan: the repository and ticket, the playbook and the agent, the steps, an estimate, and exactly what pressing Start will create. Nothing is created until you press Start. After that, the work runs in the same thread.

Turn it on

In this release Ask Kadmo is in preview, behind the account's Experimental features switch. An admin turns it on under Settings › General › Experimental features. The switch applies to everyone in the account. While it is off, ⌘K and + New chat behave as they did before, and Ask threads are hidden.

Where you ask

Way inWhat it opens
+ New chat in the sidebar, with a workspace chosen in the switcherA new, empty Ask thread in that workspace
⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) on any pageThe ⌘K box: jump to a page or item, or ask (see Jump and ask from any page)
An Ask thread in the sidebar's sessions listThat thread, to continue it

Every Ask thread belongs to the workspace it was asked in, and to the person who asked it. It is listed in that workspace's sessions in the sidebar, for its owner only. Under All workspaces there is nowhere to ask: choose a workspace first.

The box

The box at the bottom of an Ask thread is where you write. Under an empty thread it suggests up to three asks from the workspace, such as fixing its newest open bug, why its latest run stopped, or mapping its weakest skill-pack module. Choosing one fills the box but sends nothing.

Add context with @

Type @ at the start of a word to pick something for the answer to read. The list has five groups: Repos, Tickets, Agents, Playbooks and Workflows. A bare @ lists the first few of each; two letters or more search them. Tickets come from the workspace's linked tracker project, the task pool and Kadmo's internal tasks. Search only shows what your account holds.

Each pick becomes a chip above the text, up to 8 per question. The chips are read again on the server when you send, and stored with your question, so a regenerated answer or a shared view reads the same context.

KeyIn the box
@Open the picker
↑ ↓Move through the picker
Enter or TabAdd the selected item
EscClose the picker
EnterSend
Shift+EnterNew line
Backspace at the very startRemove the last chip

If the tracker does not answer in time, its group says so in one line and the other groups still answer.

Pick the model

The model chip picks the model for this thread, from the models your plan allows, grouped Cheap, Standard and Premium. The account's default is marked Default, and a new chat starts on it. Models beyond your plan show locked, with Team and up · See plans. An admin's list ends with Change the default model. If the thread's model is no longer in your plan, the thread answers on the default and the box says so.

The + menu

  • Add context opens the @ picker.
  • Live session in your workspace opens the intake that starts an agent session directly, without a plan.

Answers

An answer streams in as it is written. Above it, one line shows what Kadmo is reading, and becomes a summary when it is done (for example Read the log of job #412 · 3.1 s); open it to see each step. If the model reasoned first, that is folded under Thought.

Under the answer:

  • Sources: numbered chips for what the answer used and read: skill-pack pages, documents and uploaded files your account's chat agents index, then the tickets, runs, playbooks, agents and workflows it opened. A chip opens its source.
  • Copy copies the answer as text.
  • Regenerate asks the same question again and keeps every answer as a version, shown as 2 / 2 with Previous and Next. The version you leave on screen is the one the thread continues from.

Only the thread's latest answer can be regenerated or switched. Once you ask a follow-up, earlier answers are history. If a question got no answer, Try again asks it again.

Hand work to an agent

Write the work in plain words: Fix the flaky login test, Create this feature followed by a ticket's link, or @ a ticket and a repo and say what you want. Kadmo answers with a plan card.

The plan card

PartWhat it shows
HeadRun a playbook, the version (Plan v1, or Plan v2 of 2 after an edit) and a title
ChipsThe repo, the ticket, the playbook, the agent (or Any free agent) and the effort
StepsThe playbook's steps, in order
Done means, and risksFolded: what finished looks like, where it will ask you, and the risks
EstimateA range in millions of tokens and in minutes, with one sentence on what it is based on, such as the last finished runs of the same playbook in your account
Start createsExactly what pressing Start will create: the ticket (when the plan names none), the task and the run

Under it: Nothing is created until you press Start.

ActionWhat it does
Start (⌘↵)Creates exactly what the card lists, once. Pressing it twice, in two tabs, or after a reload ends with the same ticket, task and run
Ask for editsAsk for changes in words. Kadmo answers with the next version
EditChange the Repo, Playbook, Agent or Effort directly, then Save as v2 (or the next number)
DiscardFolds the card away. Restore brings it back; nothing is deleted

Only the latest version of a plan can start. When Start cannot run, it is disabled and says why in one sentence, with the way out:

ReasonWay out
Not enough tokens left for the estimateBuy Credits for an admin; a member is told which admin to ask
The trial has endedSee plans
The account is pausedContact support

When no agent is free, Start stays available and says the work will wait for one. Start reserves the estimate from the account's credit, and any budget an admin set applies too (see Models and credit).

The work in the thread

After Start, the card becomes the record of what it created, with links, and the work appears under it and updates by itself:

StateWhat the thread showsWhat you can do
Waiting for an agentThe run is queuedCancel, until a step has run
WorkingWhat the agent is doing now, in words (a file it reads, a search, a host it fetches), the playbook's steps and how long it has runFollow it; open the run, job, agent or task
Needs youThe gate the run stopped at, or the agent's question with its optionsResume, Approve, Send back, Cancel run, or answer the question
DoneThe result and the last step's summary, up to the pull requestReview the result where you always do
StoppedWhere it stoppedRetry

While the agent is working, a message you write goes into its live session. A gate or question from your Ask thread also shows in the workspace Overview's needs-you list, marked as coming from Ask. How runs, steps and gates work is explained in Workflows and Agents.

Workflows by chat

Ask Kadmo can also write workflows. Write Create a workflow that…, or change followed by a workflow's name and what should change. Kadmo answers with a workflow draft card: the whole YAML of a new workflow, or a line-by-line diff against the version it read. The draft has passed the workflow check before you see it.

ActionWhat it does
Create workflow or SaveSaves the draft to your skill pack. This is the only step that writes, and only admins can do it. Other members see the draft
Ask for editsAsk for changes in words
Open in the editorOpens the workflow editor with the draft filled in
DiscardFolds the draft away; Restore brings it back

If the workflow changed after the draft was written, the card says so and offers Re-apply. The workflow format is described in Workflows.

Jump and ask from any page

⌘K (Ctrl+K) opens the box on any page, even while a text field has focus. Esc closes it.

You typeThe box shows
NothingRecent: your newest threads and runs in the workspace; Pages: the daily pages
Two characters or moreTasks, Runs, Playbooks, Workflows, Agents, Workspaces and Pages that match, and the row Ask Kadmo: "…"
A question or a request for workThe ask row comes first; ↵ asks

↑ ↓ move and ↵ opens the selected row. When you ask, the answer streams in the box, under a bar with ‹ Search, Open in chat ↗ and New chat. A request for work shows a compact plan card under Proposed plan — nothing has been created., with Open in chat as its action: Start is on the thread. Under All workspaces the ask row reads Pick a workspace to ask, and jumping still works.

On Agent Fleet, Jobs and Tasks, / still searches the page's own list.

Share a thread

The owner of an Ask thread can share it with colleagues. Share in the thread's header opens a dialog with Create link, Copy link and Revoke link; after a revoke, Share again creates a new link and the old one never opens again.

Who opens the linkWhat they get
A member of your account, while the thread's workspace is activeThe thread read-only, marked Shared by you · read-only. Later messages show up too. They can Start your own chat
YouYour own thread
Anyone else, or after the link was revokedThis thread isn't shared with you, with nothing about the thread

There are no public links: a link opens only for signed-in members of your account. The reader sees no box, no Share, no meter and no Start.

The context and spend meter

The ring in the box measures the thread two ways. Open it for Context and spend:

NumberWhat it is
ContextHow much of the model's context window the thread fills, with the parts that fill it
This threadThe tokens the thread has used: its answers and the runs it started
Tokens leftThe account's credit, expressed as tokens at the answering model's price. Buy Credits for an admin; Ask an admin to buy credits. for a member
Estimate against actualFor a started plan: its estimate against what the work used, so far while it runs

Ask counts in tokens, never in money. The credit's euro balance and the prices per model are on Models and credit.
